When you pass down a road you see many things that ‑ while you don't notice them right away ‑ you may miss them once they are gone. For example, a favorite pastime was beachcombing along the waterfront in Greenport. Scattered along the shore were pieces of weathered wood from old sailing ships, hand forged nails, antique bottles. Now its condos. The quiet world is only in my memories and those of others. One reason I paint is to capture and preserve some of these vanishing sights of Long Island. Its part of my interest in local histories, the current way things are and a concern for the future. Painting is my way to make a record of some of the things I care about ‑ not only the famous landmarks but some of our more obscure treasures.
